A Palisades Park police officer has been charged with possessing cocaine and steroids, authorities said.
Authorities searched Richard J. Giacobone's home after receiving information on Nov. 9 from the Palisades Park Police Department that he might be "under the influence of illegal narcotics," the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office said in a news release.
Giacobone, 39, was arrested later that day and charged with possessing anabolic steroids, cocaine and marijuana, as well as for possessing large capacity magazines for firearms.
Giacobone worked as an officer for the New Milford Police Department, but resigned in 2015 to take a job in the Palisades Park Police Department, NorthJersey.com previously reported.
Giacobone currently earns $81,101, according to state salary records.
Giacobone is scheduled to appear in Bergen County Central Judicial Processing Court Dec. 1 at 8:30 a.m.
The Palisades Park Police Chief did not immediately return requests for comment.
