A tornado warning was issued for parts of New Jersey on Friday night.
The National Weather Service issued the warning for parts of Hunterdon, Somerset, Mercer and Middlesex counties until 12:30 a.m.
"A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Gardenville, or 20 miles northwest of Trenton, moving northeast at 35 mph," the service stated.
A tornado warning indicates that severe weather is imminent in the area or is already occurring.
Other instructions from the service include:
Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.
This cluster of thunderstorms is capable of producing tornadoes and widespread significant wind damage. Do not wait to see or hear the tornado. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.
