At least seven soccer fans have been injured in Moscow after a taxi plowed into a crowd in the Russian capital during the World Cup on Saturday.

The driver tried to flee the scene but was detained by police, according to local reports.

The fans were reportedly from Mexico, who are in the city ahead of their opening match with Germany on Sunday, which is taking place in the Luzhniki stadium.

Russian news agency Interfax has quoted a source as saying the driver may have been drunk.

Citing a medical source, the agency said none of those hurt are believed to have sustained serious injuries.

Moscow Police said the driver likely lost control of the vehicle rather than deliberately steering his car into pedestrians.

Having seen the video.....there is no way this guy lost control of the car. He was at a dead stop, then floored it why aiming for the curb, and then down they go like dominoes. Same with the tale about him being drunk. I've never seen a drunk guy hop out of a car, and run away from the scene of a crime so fast, and without stumbling. This was premeditated, and I hope he gets what's coming to him.
