UPDATED 4:28 PM EDT (See Bottom) -- The United States has ordered the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz and its Strike Group to the waters off the Korean peninsula.  The Nimitz and its group will join the USS Carl Vinson and the USS Ronald Reagan already deployed in that area with their Strike Groups.  Transit time for the Nimitz should be about eight days.

The last time the United States deployed three aircraft carrier Strike Groups off the coast of . . .  anywhere. . .  was January, 1991 to surround Iraq.  When the third carrier was in-position, the US attacked.

This is a developing story as of 3:14 PM EDT on Saturday, May 27, 2017.  Please check back for updates.

UPDATE 4:28 PM EDT --

I have reached out to several of my former colleagues in the Foreign Counter-Intelligence area and here's what I am able to report:

While the Nimitz is *publicly* viewed as the "Third" aircraft carrier strike group officially deployed toward North Korea, there is in fact, another: The USS Theodore Roosevelt!

While I cannot reveal its location, trust and believe it is near enough to be of value should hostilities be necessary.

China has all but thrown up its hands in disgust at the antics being undertaken by North Korea.  Despite significant changes in the trade relationship between North Korea and China, with China interrupting coal shipments, Pyongyang remains "stiff-necked" about having and using nuclear weapons.

I am told China is beginning to feel as though they may have created a monster by protecting North Korea for so long.  While there is a Defense Treaty between China and North Korea which says China "will defend North Korea if attacked," that Treaty does NOT specify what constitutes "defend."

China could send ONE soldier across into North Korea and say "OK, he's there to defend you; we've met our Treaty obligation. Good luck!"

DRAFT BOARDS STAFFED!

On April 16, 2017, various alternative media sites reported the US federal government was filling empty Selective Service Board seats that have not been filled for decades.

A number of people around the US who filed applications years ago to serve on their local Selective Service Board have been receiving notices they are approved. The letter instructs recipients they must attend a 2 day training session.

From Wikipedia, here's a definition of the local board:
A Selective Service local board is a group of five citizen volunteers appointed by the Director of Selective Service on behalf of the President, based on recommendations made by their respective state governors or an equivalent public official. These men and women play an important community role closely connected with our nation's defense.

If a military draft becomes necessary, approximately 2,000 local boards throughout the United States, territories, and the District of Columbia would decide who among the registrants in their community will receive deferments, postponements, or exemption from military service based on the individual registrant's circumstances and beliefs.

The widespread approval of Selective Service Board applicants makes some people believe a Draft is coming!

Per the Selective Service Act, Males ages 18-45 are subject to being Drafted but in practice, it would likely depend just how bad a war got.

For World War One, by the guidelines set down by the Selective Service Act, all males aged 21 to 30 were required to register for military service. At the request of the War Department, Congress amended the law in August 1918 to expand the age range to include all men 18 to 45, and to bar further volunteering.

National registration days and termination:

During World War I there were three registrations.

  • The first, on June 5, 1917, was for all men between the ages of 21 and 31.
  • The second, on June 5, 1918, registered those who attained age 21 after June 5, 1917.
  • A supplemental registration, included in the second registration, was held on August 24, 1918, for those becoming 21 years old after June 5, 1918.
  • The third registration was held on September 12, 1918, for men age 18 through 45.

TRUMP REMARK YESTERDAY:

President Trump said Friday that the threat posed by North Korea's nuclear ambitions "will be solved."

“It's a big problem," Trump told reporters at a meeting of the Group of Seven world leaders in Sicily. "It's a world problem and it will be solved at some point. It will be solved, you can bet on that."

Trump's remarks came ahead of a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

"We will be discussing many things including, of course, North Korea, which is very much on our minds. We will be discussing terrorism, but I think we will really in particular be focused on the North Korea problem,” Trump said.

The president's comments come as his administration grapples with how to deal with North Korea's pursuit of nuclear weapons that could reach the United States.

U.S. officials said Sunday that North Korea launched a medium-range ballistic missile test that landed in the Sea of Japan.

The Associated Press reported Monday North Korea is ready to begin the mass production of its new missile, which could reach Japan and major military bases.
