I have made a few small changes to this site. Larger changes are coming.
Today, the new COMMENTS area beneath each article, has been reserved for Subscribers only. The general public can still READ all the comments, but the ability to post is now for subscribers only.
This became necessary within about a week of me switching from "Disqus" to my own privately handled commenting feature. Within hours of that change every dingbat and loser with an axe to grind, started spamming most of the comment areas with crap. That's over now.
I am also heading into a major re-design for the site itself. More emphasis on keeping stuff for Subscribers and less for the general public. In fact, one of the first things I'm researching is a discussion forum as opposed to just the commenting area.
A forum will allow folks to raise topics that interest them, regardless of whether those topics are "news" or not. The way I envision it, whoever ORIGINATES a message thread, will be able to moderate it themselves; deleting bad posts and even banning certain users from THAT MESSAGE THREAD.
The forum would also allow private messaging between forum users. This way, folks can talk privately without having to exchange actual email addresses.
As with everything, I have security concerns. Every new feature introduced to a web site, brings with it potential security problems and those have to be resolved before I enable such things, but I'm working on it for you.
I want this site to be a place where normal people can have normal conversations and not be abused by malcontents and whackos.
I'll keep you posted.
