Here in the New York City metro area, we had rain for most of the morning. Around 10:30-11:00 this morning, it began to change to snow, but the ground was wet, so the snow did not accumulate anywhere.
At about 5:00 this afternoon, the temperature had dropped to 32°F and the snow began to come down heavier, but still not accumulating. At about 6:15 PM tonight, the snow began accumulating, and it is doing so, fast.
About two inches on the ground as I write at 6:55 PM and we still have a full 24 hours to go.
National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting up to 24" here in North Bergen, which is only three miles west of midtown Manhattan, NYC. Farther south, places like Toms River and Brick, NJ are now forecast to receive closer to thirty inches (30")
The wind has begun to pick-up, too. NWS says we will experience winds of up to fifty (50) miles per hour overnight which will be actual "Blizzard" conditions.
The snow is heavy and wet.
The combination of heavy, wet, snow, and high winds, will likely bring down tree limbs or entire trees, making electrical outages very likely.
The Governor of New Jersey has declared a "state of emergency." Moreover, she has declared a "commercial vehicle ban" on Interstate highways like I-95 (NJ Turnpike), The Garden State Parkway, I-80, I-78, and so forth.
Everyone speaking publicly is urging / insisting, that everyone stay home and off the roads, except for snow plows and other emergency vehicles. Staying home is a VERY good idea.
I, of course, have to snow plow.
