Gasoline price hike cancels Canada to US flights
Air Canada, the largest airline in Canada, announced that it will suspend all its direct flights from Toronto and Montreal to New York's JFK International Airport for five months.
This decision comes following a severe shortage of jet fuel and more than a 100% increase in its supply costs at JFK Airport.
Air Canada officials have cited the war in Iran and West Asia as the main cause of this crisis, which has disrupted crude oil supply chains and closed key maritime routes, including the Strait of Hormuz.
Aviation industry experts describe this situation as the "largest fuel crisis in the history of civil aviation," even more severe than the crises caused by the September 11, 2001 attacks and the COVID-19 pandemic.
