Earthquake shakes southeast Missouri

A moderate earthquake in southeast Missouri on Thursday sent tremors rippling across multiple states, with reports of shaking reaching as far as southern Indiana.

According to the United States Geological Survey, a magnitude 4.0 earthquake struck at 12:59 p.m. on April 23. The epicenter was located about half a mile northwest of Cooter, Missouri, at a depth of approximately seven miles.

While the quake was relatively small, its reach was notable. The USGS received reports from hundreds of people who felt shaking across Missouri and neighboring states, including Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, and Mississippi.
