A snowstorm is heading into the northeastern US and forecasts say it will drop four to eight inches in northeastern PA, 6-10 inches in northern New Jersey and 3-5 inches in New York City starting Friday into Saturday.
There are actually TWO storms involved. One is in Canada, moving southeast. It will cross over Toronto, enter New York State near Buffalo and make a bee-line toward New York City. With temperatures below freezing in that entire area, this will be all snow.
At the same time, a second storm, moving from West to East, will begin to merge with the one coming down from Canada. The merger will begin around western Pennsylvania, brining rain, then freezing rain as the storm moves east, and turning to all snow over eastern Pennsylvania, into New Jersey and New York City.
Many of the forecasts include explicit warnings of "freezing rain" and "sleet" as art of this storm. This is likely to trigger power outages as trees and tree limbs, weighed down by ice, break, fall, and hit power lines on the way down.
