Talks Between U.S. and Iran Set to Begin 2:00 AM Eastern US Time

The United States and Iran are SCHEDULED TO resume talks in Geneva, Switzerland.

Geneva is six (6) hours ahead of the US east coast time zone.   So when it is 2:00 AM on the US east coast, it will be 8:00 AM Tuesday morning in Geneva. Pre-meeting staff are set to arrive at that time, with actual negotiations scheduled to commence 90 minutes later at 9:30 AM Geneva time.

The stakes are high.

The US wants Iran to completely cease its enrichment of Uranium.  Iran says it enriches its own Uranium for peaceful nuclear energy purposes and will NOT cease such enrichment, but is willing to negotiate maximum enrichment levels, and work together on an enforcement mechanism.

The US (on behalf of Israel) wants Iran to reduce its Conventional Ballistic Missile capabilities, and to reduce the range of its missiles so they can never reach Israel.   Iran refuses to even discuss its conventional military arms.

The US (on behalf of Israel) wants Iran to cut ties with their so-called "proxies," Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis in Yemen.   Iran refuses to cut any of its International ties.

The US wants Iran to deal gently with people who rose up in protest three weeks ago.  Iran says it's legal system is its business, not the business of the United States.

Over the past three weeks or so, the US has been moving VERY large - enormous - amounts of military hardware into the Persian Gulf region, along with two aircraft carrier strike groups.   US President Trump has made clear if there is no deal, "things will not be nice" for Iran.  An implicit threat of military attack.

All things considered, it seems to most casual observers that there is almost no possibility of any deal.

Iran is, however, offering an inducement to the US: Allowing US oil and Gas companies to enter the Iranian market for such oil and gas development, AND;

Iran made known they intend to purchase at least 100 large Passenger Jets, which could be bought from US aircraft maker, Boeing.

Iran says the economic activity would be worth about $500 Billion.

Hal Turner Remarks

At the top of this story, I capitalized that the US and Iran are SCHEDULED TO meet.   What if one side simply doesn't show up because they've decided it is useless?

What if one side WALKS OUT of the negotiations, perhaps saying they are useless.

Then, it seems to most people, US military action might begin.  But there are problems:

Iran has not attacked the United States.

Congress has not declared war.

The UN Security Council has not authorized the use of force.

So there seems to be ZERO legal basis for a US military strike upon Iran.

What if things fall apart early in the meeting?  Maybe, let's say, by 3:00 AM eastern time?   What if the US commences military action immediately thereafter?

Americans might wake up tomorrow morning and find us at war.
