The United States is urging its citizens to leave Iran immediately and recommends using land crossings to Armenia or Turkey, which remain open.
The U.S. State Department has issued a new warning to American citizens currently in Iran, citing “transportation restrictions, internet shutdowns, and risk of arrests.”
According to the statement, American citizens of Iranian origin may be detained simply for holding a U.S. passport, and the United States cannot guarantee the safety of those who choose to remain in the country.
