A helicopter went down in the Hudson River near West 34th Street in Manhattan around 2:30 PM local time Wednesday.

The craft quickly became floated on its own flotation pods and was moved toward the shoreline by boats from the New York Police Department (NYPD), Fire Department (FDNY) the North Hudson Regional Fire Rescue from the New Jersey side of the Hudson River, and the US Coast Guard.

The pilot, who was apparently the only person aboard, exited the craft safely and was taken to a local hospital with minor cuts and bruises.

Authorities are now holding the floating helicopter at the shoreline, awaiting a crane to hoist it out of the river.
