U.S. Railroad Strike Begins July 18 - Trains will stop

The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) voted by a margin of 99.5 percent to authorize a strike if such action becomes legal and “necessary to secure a contract worthy of their consideration.” A strike like this threatens to halt all train movement across the country.

In a statement, BLET National President Dennis Pierce said that this is the first nationwide strike vote since 2011, but that it is necessary because railroads “used and continue to use their economic strength to steamroll their employees, their customers and the nation, all for the sake of their bottom line, and it is clear that they have no intentions of changing.”

In the third year of the national contract negotiation process, he added, “the rail carriers have never made a contract proposal to our union that their employees, our members, would accept.”

The moment trains stop, all the supply-chain issues previously experienced by Americans, will grow worse by orders of magnitude.

Since all modern locomotives are diesel-electric, if they're shut down due to a strike, then they won't need diesel engine oil that's supposed to be unobtanium....

Strike may also be a cover for RR scheduling/capacity 'errors' or 'problems' that halted fertilizer shipments earlier this year (for one).

The larger the repercussions, the more certain somebody will intervene with some sort of ‘solution’…
A Nationwide Railway Shutdown qualifies for this sort of act.
This presupposes the End Result isnt a planned for event….If The Masters of TPTB desire such a shutdown, it will occur; but Brandon has already intervened so thats not gonna happen here[ once again]…..

I've been with the railroad for 30 years now, and the couple of times in the past when a nationwide strike was being addressed, it never happened. We were always immediately called back to work and were told that because the railroad was considered 'essential' for the security of the nation it was 'illegal' for us to strike.
I truly believe there is nothing to be upset about - at this time.... nonetheless, I don't trust TBTB...

I started preparing to stand against the coming beast system clear back in 95 when I saw the Republicans - once again - cave to the 'demon-crazies' when they said they were going to go to D.C. and clean house - they all sold their souls in less than a year.

I've been to D.C. three times over the years and I'm convinced that place is pure evil - I can actually sense it in my spirit - each time I could NOT wait to get away from there.

As you say - things are worsening daily, but it's been happening in such a way that the masses are acclimated and what's happening.

It's as if we're seeing the early on-set of 2 Thessalonians 2:9-12: 9 The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie, 10 and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. 11 For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie 12 and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.

Energy Armageddon: S. Arabia begins record imports of Russian oil – Stocks are running out!- Macron to Biden: “I have bad news” S.Arabia also reduced the delivery of crude oil to Chinese refineries!

In the shock revelation that Saudi Arabia's strategic oil reserves are running out, and the "source" is drying up, international analysts proceed, noting that the Kingdom now imports large quantities of Russian oil with Egypt as an intermediate country.

This means that Saudi Arabia's oil reserves and strategic reserves are running out, bringing energy Armageddon even closer. Ghawar is all but empty and the many super straws will drain the remains with LIGHTNING speed. Goodbye Cheap Oil. Goodbye Cheap Anything. US has insatiable need for CHEAP oil. US prints money (promissory note) on computer and has bought the last remaining oil on the cheap. TRILLIONS in DEBT nothing to back worthless currency. US lifestyle gone forever!

Ghawar is an oil field located in Saudi Arabia. Measuring 280 by 30 km (170 by 19 mi) (some 8,400 square kilometres (3,200 sq mi)), it is by far the largest conventional oil field in the world, and accounts for roughly a third of the cumulative oil production of Saudi Arabia as of 2018.

But even if the Saudis want to, they can't increase production. Moreover, they themselves need the cheap Russian fuel oil for two main reasons.

Firstly because it is strongly heard that Saudi Arabia's oil reserves are no longer enough and at some point they will inevitably run out and secondly because it seems that they are planning to join the BRICS economic club in order to distance themselves from Western countries and align themselves more with Russia and China.

Crazy talk!

You mean...the government can/will intervene to END this.....in 3 days.....as was done in the last major rail strike in 1992, as opposed to letting millions of people starve to death?!

Here's how the 1992 rail strike ended....in 3 days....with a legacy set of executive orders and LAWS coming out of it preventing a repeat...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1992_United_States_railroad_strike

"The strike began just after midnight on Wednesday June 24.[2] I....Congress reacted rapidly to the strike and subsequent industry lockout. In what the Los Angeles Times described as "with rare speed", the House and Senate both passed a bill in the evening of Thursday June 25 which contained a ban on both strikes by railroad workers and lockouts by railroads against their employees.[1] The bill was passed shortly before three Amtrak unions had threatened to begin a strike, with a deadline of 12:01 AM Friday morning set for a walkout to begin. President Bush signed it into law shortly after it cleared both chambers of Congress.[1][5]

The law created by congress required mandatory arbitration in disputes between railroads and their employees."

Why is there a shortage of workers, Ell?

Is not the minimum wage......set by the union crontract?

Could a higher wage not be paid......except for the union contract?

Perhaps the shifts could be staffed?......Except the union contract requires the pogues coming in to except a wage......which no competent worker would except? Perhaps the union contract......requires a union wage......substantially above that......which both esceeds their value and which NO MAN hiring onto this job would ever attain?

Perhaps.....'collective bargaining' in these jobs....has failed.

Perhaps......collective bargaining......communism....in these jobs should have never been allowed.

Perhaps....these workers should be required to INDIVIDUALLY bargain....you know.....like the rest of us.

These have become.....for semi-skilled labor.....$100k+ jobs......since these 'semi/unsklled laborers are now allowed to 'bargain collectively'.

Individually......they're meaningless.
But they have, through congressional action, somehow gained the ''right' to ALL bargain as one.

The heavens and earth that now exist are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly. The day of the Lord will come like a thief, and the earth will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed. The day is coming, burning like an oven, when all the arrogant and all evildoers will be stubble. The day that is coming shall set them ablaze, says the Lord of hosts, so that it will leave them neither root nor branch. Scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires. Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Unlikely......

The last major US rail strike lasted all of 3 days.....before an end was forced by a series of Presidential executive orders AND passage of H.J.Res.517, outlawing the strike...

No.....I'd say it will probably take a full week after onset of the strike for the 1992 path to repeat itself, and the strike to end with a series of executive orders and bills through Congress.

This isn't 1992. Dems controlled only the House in 1992. GOP controlled the Senate & Presidency.

It'll take a few more days and pictures of empty store shelves this time.

However, as Bill51 pointed out, a wildcat strike by tough railroaders will allow the Union officials to claim, "Who, moi ?", so even they cannot be arrested in order to stop it. It will be sold as a grassroots thing - you can't arrest them all. I would surmise Amtrak employes, being quasi-government, would be much more compliant/less defiant.

The issues are so deep with the unions' rank and file, I do not know if anything mandatory will work. They are being asked to completely alter their lifestyle in such a way that, although well-paid, they feel they are giving up their personal lives. The Railroads are very short-staffed, and any more hiring means lots of new-employe costs that Wall Street will punish them for. Offers of extra pay are just not what the unions want - they want their lives back, they want shorter trains, they want more yard expediting, etc. . These are demands for operational changes the Railroads can't really make at this time, having transitioned into them slowly over the years in order to boost profits.

It's always been a management dogma that it is much, much cheaper to pay overtime than to hire a new employe. Now that their business model is gauged to that mantra, they can't really let it go without major profit impact, IMO.

Oh.......I beg to differ. Look at what happened to the 1/6 protesters. They've been rotting in jail for years for being geo-located near the Capital.

CAN the govt jail the union leaders in spite of their denials?
YES.

If this plays badly......federal marshals WILL be showing up at the homes of the crews saying 'time to work......the strike is illegal'.

They will have 2 choices:
1) work
2) federal detention on Riker's Island

I see your point, but if 100,000 rail workers go on a wildcat and get angry about arrests of their leaders or some regular workers starting, I think the Feds would have their hands full "making an example" of a few, as is their wont. The Feds' tactic for coercion is fear and shock - they're counting on it since they would be vastly outnumbered - what if it doesn't work ?

However, the Feds might succeed even so. But even if they do, I've been involved in a forced work resumption from the management side, and let me tell you, there are a million ways to slow things to a crawl, and still be "working". Other than a bullwhip, I don't know what would get them going at decent speed again, either !

If you want to go to the extreme case......collective bargaining for the industry could be banned.

It ended ..... in 3 days......in 1992. Not because the union wanted that, but because they understood the path forward was worse for them.....possibly including dissolution....NOT better for them.

The state had decided that the right of 250M people to eat trumped their right to 'collective work action'. They were one step away from having their collective bargaining rights banned and having to INDIVIDUALLY bargain.

The vast majority of Americans are decent, hard working people. They will not succumb to violence until they are directly attacked and at that time they will bring all of hell with them. The fact that the Biden crime family is financially raping America is not enough. (re: Sri Lanka where the politicians with power were mostly from the same family, drove the country into deep debt while trying to enrich the country by borrowing billions.) The riots started in Sri Lanka when the food became scarce. People are comfortable, so no riots. If anyone on this platform assumes the union did it or the railroads did it, you are uninformed. The owners and politicians WANT this to happen and create conditions for riots over food shortages. So, yes, I agree, the Biden crime family needs to go and so does every jackass that has a part in the destruction of America.

Wake up people. This is Communist subversion, pure and simple and a part of Putin's grand plan for take over. Also, do not forget the nukes! They have always been the part of his plan as well, several according to Mike Adams, which rhymes with seven. However, this is not a part of the Mother of God plan. She has her own plan to which she repeatedly refers as "My Plan" in her messages, that is regardless of whether or not blowhard heretics approve if it or not, Queen of Heaven plans to intercept 1/2 of those seven Sarmats, allowing only 3 will get through.

It is still too many, but clearly the Great Chastisement/Tribulation has to occur for Americans, formerly a CHRISTIN PEOPLE TO BE PROPERLY EXORCISED BY HEAVEN.

We need a "New Jack In The Box In The White House To Save Our Business The United States Corporation" which is "Being Driven Broke By The King Of The Jackasses" illustrious "Commie Joe 'Hole' Biden." I have too much respect for the Presidency to add the Ass to the Hole but suffice to say, "Only A Treasonous Asshole Could Destroy the United States of America from Within" using "The Presidency As A Weapon Against America Shutting Down Our Huge Oil Industry Destroying Our Largest Asset" while "Trying To Engage Russia In A War That Can't Be Won Without Our Strategic National Defense Oil Reserves" of which "Biden Is Giving To Communist China An Act Of Outright High Treason." This really seems like something may happen.
I live along a main East-West Freight line here in Pennsylvania. Normally, in the past couple of months the freight trains passing through town have trickled down to 1 or maybe 2 an hour. It seems in the last week, we are averaging at least 1 every 15 minutes. Some are very short, and some are ridiculously long, and most of them appear to be empty gondola cars, empty car carriers, and lots of brand new flammable liquid tank cars. The empties are traveling in both directions which is really odd. There seem to be very few trains carrying Shipping Containers (Conex boxes) and most of them seem to be heading towards the east coast (Philadelphia).

# 40 percent of all freight stopsAlcoluJohn 2022-07-16 10:04
According to the Iowa State University's Institute for Transportation,

"Trains carry the largest percentage, 39.5 percent, in terms of miles and tonnage [of all freight transported in the U.S]. In other words, trains transport heavy cargo long distances.

Why do the trains look different?
Different freight trains are carrying different items. The most popular items for trains to transport include:

* Bulk cargo like iron ore or coal [and grain, fertilizer, specialized bulk lubricants, metal ingots, concrete cement, etc.]
* Shipping containers
* Special cargo like cars or steel plates [and heavy military equipment such as tanks, artillery pieces, missiles, etc.], which are not suitable for containers or bulk shipping.

Where are the trains going?
Freight trains typically travel to and from specific areas of economic activity. For example, many lines move from rural areas, for agriculture and energy products, to population centers. The United States has more than 140,000 rail miles! To put this into perspective, the United States is 2,680 miles from east to west, and 1,582 miles from north to south."

Rail strike threat to supply chain tests Biden's commitment to labor

"After more than two years of negotiations,
railroads and the unions representing rail
workers are at a stalemate over compensation
and benefits related to their contracts."

(2 years... so this thing has been brewing for some time now and I bet tempers are hot)

"Mass strikes or a lockout would be disastrous
for the economy right now, given the country's
historic inflation and persistent problems with
supply chains."

It was a wise choice to include this article in the news feed. The railroads are at an impasse. Irresistible force meets immovable object. People are clamoring for Biden to intervene. Here are his choices:

1. Bully the railroads to hire more workers at higher pay to alleviate the excessive overtime problems at the core of the railroaders' unrest;

2. Invoke governmental authority to force the railroad labor back to work immediately, calling it another cooling-off period or just use open direct orders. This would be accompanied by dictates to the rail companies to grant concessions immediately, concessions determined by the government;

3. Force negotiations while forbidding a strike; negotiations that go nowhere;

4. Commandeer the railways by the National Guard ( the most laughable option ).

Every option badly increases costs to the railroads and society in real time, and further alienates the BLET in that they have to continue to endure this intolerable situation for an indefinite period. And all of this will of course be administered by Biden's incompetent and left-blinded Transportation Secretary Peter Buttwhatever, who rubs everyone but flaming leftists the wrong way.

Money-printing and its associated capital destruction and loss of purchasing power for producers caused this problem, and no band-aid is going to fix it. We have reached the point of reactive instability in the railroads and the economy in general - i.e., corrective feedback only amplifies the problems.

Also, I strongly suspect that a large part of what is behind the current labor shortages EVERYWHERE is the health damage caused by the so-called vaccines: death and disability and general energy malaise. Therefore, it seems to me all Biden's options are going to end up making things much worse.

Try to anticipate and get what you need ASAP.

+3 # Even if Biden does intervene, that will only add another 60 days maximum of buffer time before a nationwide strike occurs anywayMildB 2022-07-16 08:14
The Railway Labor Act requires a 30-day cooling period, which is currently underway, since the two sides failed to reach an agreement in talks before the National Mediation Board. That cooling period ends on July 18.

Unless fake president Joe Biden intervenes by naming a Presidential Emergency Board to investigate the dispute and release recommendations for a settlement, America’s trains will stop in less than a week.

“That would block a work stoppage for another 60 days – 30 days while the board investigates and makes its report, and 30 days after the report issued,” reports Trains.com about what a Biden intervention would accomplish.

The National Railway Labor Conference is expecting that Biden will name a board, and various business groups including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce are calling on the regime to do the same.

“It is imperative that the administration act to prevent any disruption to America’s rail service,” wrote Chamber CEO Suzanne Clark in a letter to Biden earlier this month.

In his own statement, BLET’s Pierce criticized the railroads for using the Railway Labor Act to “hide” and avoid “having to treat their employees fairly.”

“Rest assured,” he added, “our Brotherhood is now prepared to take the next steps in the process as we fight to reach a contract settlement that our members will accept.”

In the comments at Trains.com, one person wrote that it is duplicitous of Suzanne Clark to have remained silent when railroad executives were cutting their operations “to the bone” in an effort to maximize profits.

“On one hand, it’s great to maximize profits, even if that comes at the price of operational flexibility and customer service,” this person further wrote. “On the other hand, it’s a disruption when the folks doing the actual work with boots on the ground ask to be treated fairly.”

“Railroading is a very difficult lifestyle. Yes, lifestyle, because that it is what it is, 24/7/365-1/4. Without people accepting that lifestyle, railroading will come to a halt. That lifestyle becomes more onerous when the people doing the work are treated as a budget line item like motive power, rolling stock, rail, ties or OTM.”

Someone else, responding to this, explained that the railroads have simply run out of people willing to work under such conditions, especially for low pay and poor benefits.

They should strike. This is most definitely the fault of the railroads not the employees. I myself have worked at BNSF for over 14 years as a conductor. I left this spring because of the horrible way the railroads treat their employees. I’d had enough of them stealing my pay and breathing down everyone’s neck to never ever take a day off. I’ve heard it’s gotten way worse since I left. Good riddance!!! The whole reason why the railroad treats their employees like crap is to squeeze every last dollar out of their operation. They know they can get away with it because railroaders are only allowed to strike in very very narrow circumstances. And to be honest, the union is a joke. Both the BLE and the smart/utu unions. They’re great at the local level horrible at the national level.

Years back when on strike, our National board found small print somewhere that we did not qualify for strike pay or a nat’l rep to assist us —- but, to be clear, any union member that did not keep their dues paid up during the strike was in violation of union rules and would be kicked off the union list. Yeah, tell me again how unions are still a good thing….riding on a good reputation from years away back is how I see them. SMH
+1 # I'm sorryPioneer 2022-07-16 11:31
I'm sorry to hear that. I had always heard people say how wonderful the railroad treated their people. But what good is good pay if you get treated like crap and have to work 24/7?
