20,709 MPH !!! Russia Shows Newest Missile Weapon - U.S. has NO DEFENSE against this

The Russian military says it has shown its latest hypersonic weapon to U.S. inspectors.

The Defense Ministry said Tuesday that it demonstrated the Avangard hypersonic glide vehicle to a team of U.S. inspectors this week as part of transparency measures under the New Start nuclear arms treaty with the U.S. It said the new weapon will be put on combat duty in December.

Russian President Vladimir Putin unveiled the Avangard in 2018 along with other prospective weapons, noting that its ability to make sharp maneuvers on its way to a target will render missile defense useless.

The military said the Avangard is capable of flying 27 times faster than the speed of sound.  That means is travels at 20,709 miles per hour, which is 5.75 Miles PER SECOND.

If America's advanced radar picks-up such a missile inbound from 100 miles away, that missile would cover that 100 miles in 17 SECONDS.

US missile defenses need about twenty seconds just to lock-on radar tracking, then need about 15 more seconds to launch an interceptor . . . which is too slow to even catch the missile.   As such, next month when Russia deploys these missiles, the United States of America will be completely, totally, vulnerable to Russian first-strike.  We have NO DEFENSE to this technology.

Putin said its creation represented a technological breakthrough comparable to the 1957 Soviet launch of the first satellite.

Seems to me that a geosyncronous satellite ejecting clouds of beach sand would cause anything impacting a cloud of sand at that speed to self destruct. It wouldn't be too difficult to emplace a cloud of sand over each occupied area of the country as a shield to erode anything passing through at hypervelocity into junk. Science fiction? So was a man on the moon once upon a time...

This is faster than escape velocity.

If this story is true, perhaps it would be a catalyst for the US development of laser weapons.

    EEEEehhhh ........what's up doc ....
Soooo ....this thing is about 8 times faster than a speeding .223 bullet ....
fastest bullet I ever heard of was 3800 .... a .17 Cal ......it would produce a vapor trail , looked like it was pulling a cotton string behind it .
This bragged speed must be on re entry .......... kinda hard to guide anything at that speed.

It is not faster than the speed of light, 186,000 miles/second. That should imply a defense is possible and probable. Some folks just do not "brag" about their capability. Bragging is for fools.

Putin would not have said a word if not for that accident.

Review your physics for what happens as velocity increases.

If you like his information, get some funding to HAL. I count on it and do it.

Heres some more news that the mass media doesnt share.

Think about it.....it travels 5.75 miles...
A SECOND.... thats faster than any stealth bomber.
Our new laser rail gun cant even hit it.

When was the last time Russia attacked the USA?

Russia builds weapons for DEFENSE of its cities and Nation.

When the people of America decide they want to have trade instead of war with Russia, then the trillions spent on war machinery can now be spent on fixing all the social problems with America.

Will Congress and the Military Industrial Complex allow it to happen?

      Ah, Ronald, you are back.

I feel so much better now that you put my mind to ease. Sure, good question. When was the last time Russia attacked the USA?
