History always repeats itself.
They have done everything possible to induce Putin and his military to do something stupid or esculate to give NATO and excuse to jump in with both feet. Everything has failed, Russia has been surprisingly disiplined.
Could this be a tactic to push that overreaction button so hard it can't be ignored?
They aren't worried about being prosecuted because the Ukrainian government has been given guarantees of asylum and protection from any possibility of prosecution.
In the coming US "civil war", I would think it foolish for any "patriots" to surrender to the demons that are running the FEMA camps. Fighting to the death will be the only sane option.
I also predict that in most cases that prisoners will not be taken. If the militia in this immediate area were to capture the enemy, how the hell would we, already food challenged ourselves, feed a prisoner? Much less have the extra manpower to guard them?
Call me evil or whatever, but in the case of a US civil war, I see it being a war where I would would not surrender under any circumstances, nor would I take any prisoners.
To think that war can be made nice by arbitrary rules, is delusional thinking. War by definition has no rules, except to win at any cost.
The country is substantially less free now than it used to be, but nobody is doing anything about it. We have just had two national election cycles in a row completely hijacked in plain sight, and nobody is gathering on the streets. Why? Because we still have cable TV and sportsball, and food, and beer. Sure, it's all getting more expensive, but hey, it's not enough to go outside and die in a hail of bullets, right? And ok, so the elections look a little iffy, but you can still go watch the game on Saturday night (or whenever that is, I don't watch sportsball myself). Things will have to get a lot worse before the people who are driving this need to think about changing how they are doing it. Why have a messy civil war, where lots of infrastructure gets destroyed and very bad optics all round, when you can just grind your boot into the neck of the people slowly but surely, year by year?
Before you know it, people will be saying that it's fine that the government can disable your car at will - after all, it's necessary for safety and law enforcement, right? And it's fine that you need to pay $1000 tax stamp + wait a year + undergo a government sanctioned safety course for which there is a five year waiting period + install locks on all your guns + keep them in secure safes when not in use + submit regular reports of your activities to the authorities. It's worth it if it stops one mass shooting, right? And so what if some people are getting their government-issued digital currency wallets disabled - they are right wing extremists spewing hate on the internet, they deserve consequences for their despicable violence-through-words! Oh, and did you see the game last night?
We don't end with a bang, I think it's the whimper one, but that's just based on how it's been going up to now, I could be wrong.

There was a fairly formal doctrine adopted in the Carter administration disallowing assassination of national leaders. Trump broke that big time with the assassination of Soleimani in Iran, and Obama too, with our association with the assassination of Khaddafi.
