Australia's largest warship, the HMAS Adelaide, is reportedly completely disabled in the South Pacific Ocean, off the island of Tonga. The situation is allegedly so desperate, not even Communications gear is working aboard the vessel!

Since this is at least the second ship to experience this, since Russians had previously disabled a modern missile destroyer USS Donald Cook in the Black See a few years back, we can only conclude that the US Navy has not solved the problem.

By the way our super-expensive aircraft carriers, the vestige of WWII are also toast, since they are vulnerable to hypersonic weapons against which we have no defenses.

It could be cockroaches in the electrical system, but I seriously doubt it.

As others have stated, it was probably just a little reminder of Russia's capabilities carried out as far from the actual "area of conflict" as possible in order to not fan the flames.

This capability is known, but what would be interesting is to see if any Russian/Chinese military vehicles (boat, sub, aircraft, etc.) or satellites were even remotely in the area.

If there weren't any, then essentially it's "game over" even before it's started because that would mean that they can project those capabilities clear across the globe without even leaving their countries. Think entire fleets totally "bricked" right at port, instantly.

Or even better from a military standpoint, the whole fleet "bricked" literally out in the middle of bleeping nowhere, with their entire crews left to die of thirst and cannibalism as the useless hulks become instant derelicts, drifting with the currents for years.

Yes, "Free Energy", "Ether", "Zero Point Energy" etc. is very real and can be used as an inexhaustible source of energy but also as a weapon if the release period is extremely short.
