Your comment is exactly right, Gulfcaptain. What also occurred during that same time, 1935, was that all the U.S. corporations were placed under the Uniform Commercial Code ( UCC ) that essentially stripped all corporations from Constitutional control, and all governments from Constitutional limitations. They could now make them up as they went along.

Leaving Constitutional protections only for citizens basically strips from them any redress to corporation or governmental abuse. So we're free to walk around and spout anything that comes to mind, maybe sue some people with permission, and maybe live in any neighborhood we want, and go to church, but we are powerless to legally impinge on any Corporate or Government activities. Yet, these are the activities that oppress our lives daily, for example, forcing us to come up with property taxes each year, or forfeit our houses, because under UCC, the government has actual title to our house and lands.

As a result of the receivership of 1935, we are so impotent as individuals in government or corporate matters that we have become conditioned over multiple generations to have a sort of defeatism. This is called "learned helplessness" in psychology, but it is actually simply active hopelessness.

The decline of American culture and morals which enabled this takeover probably began around the time of the Civil War, when the people of the North bought into the moral outrage: that the people of the Southern States couldn't leave the Union and determine their own government. They went along with it as an expediency to themselves and their own prosperity, and the moral and spiritual compromise required to acquiesce to that, led to all sorts of further decline. Examples of the social and moral decline in that postwar period include Reconstruction, the Panics, the Gay Nineties, the debt-ridden Roaring Twenties, U.S. entry into WWI, and many others. Any one of those should have aroused public protest and reform, but they didn't, and that was telling.

So, the sellout into receivership to a financial entity, and adoption of the UCC, in 1935 was an easy transition. That in turn has led to the much steeper moral decline since, with associated loss of freedoms and human will.

So, I think our moral and spiritual bereavement has certainly led to our present condition of having no idea how to oppose the present power structure, even when it is corrupt. In fact, many people now prefer it to be corrupt, being completely given over to evil. For why the Europeans have less of this learned helplessness, I don't have a good understanding.

HOWEVER, God is never thwarted, and we have access to Him via prayer, and when coupled with faith, that is the greatest power in the universe. I intend to use His power to pray for a spiritual quickening ( try to keep up - we are LONG past "revival" ) and move of God to rid the land of the love of money, and restore spiritual awareness. The process may be painful, judgment starts at the house of God, but it will be joyous to behold in the end. If we would but humble ourselves and pray.
