These crystals have to be dissolved in water and therefore not taken by mouth directly. Where were they made and what is the shelf life?

The Surviodine tablets can be taken by mouth, are made in the USA, and have a 7 year shelf life that likely will be extended by refrigeration.
I no longer see them on eBay but there are many potassium iodide tablets sold on the Internet. The Surviodine bottles read 130 mg potassium iodide per tablet - take 1 tablet daily for 3 to 14 days when radiation exposure is imminent - may be dissolved in liquid. Somewhere I read not to take them unless radiation is present as they may enlarge the thyroid gland under normal conditions. They are said to prevent thyroid cancer from radiation exposure so they are a fall back measure. I think the Soviets distributed some when that reactor at Chernobyl went critical.
