EMERGENCY AT PICKERING NUCLEAR POWER PLANT IN ONTARIO

EMERGENCY AT PICKERING NUCLEAR POWER PLANT IN ONTARIO
9 Comments

The Canadian Emergency Broadcast System is sending ALERTS right now (7:41 AM EST) warning Ontario residents of an Emergency at the Pickering Nuclear Power Plant.  The alerts confirm "RADIATION RELEASE" and warn residents not to go near the plant.

Developing, check back for updates. . .

Wind direction in that area is reported to be from the NorthWest, moving Southeast toward the USA (Rochester).

UPDATE 7:51 AM EST --

The Ontario government says there has been some sort of “incident” at Pickering Nuclear Generating Station, prompting them to send a mass mobile alert to people as far away as Toronto.

The province said an incident was reported at the station, off of Montgomery Park Road in Pickering, sometime on Sunday and emergency crews are at the power plant.

“There has been NO abnormal release of radioactivity from the station,” the alert read. “People near the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station DO NOT need to take any protective actions at this time.”

The power plant is run by Ontario Power Generation and has been in service since 1971. It is slated to be decommissioned in 2024.

The text of the alert said it applied to those within 10 kilometres of the station but cell phone users as far away as 33 kilometres from the plant received the alert.

A spokesperson for OPG told CP24 he had no additional information to provide.

Durham Regional Police also said they had no information to provide.

Pickering Nuclear Generating Station is a Canadian nuclear power station located on the north shore of Lake Ontario in Pickering, Ontario. It is one of the oldest nuclear power stations in the world and Canada's third-largest, producing about 15% of Ontario's power and employing 3,000 workers.

The map below shows the area:

Co-located at the Pickering station is a single 1.8 MWe wind turbine named the OPG 7 commemorative turbine. Sunday January 12 incident warning sent out by Ontario government.

Nothing?  Then Why the ALERT?

People in Canada are barraging us with emails asking basically "Why would the government issue such an alert when they know people will panic?? Toronto has millions of people.... something doesn't add up here... it must be a lot worse than they are letting on otherwise they would never issue an alert for such an event."

We cannot answer such questions right now, but we are endeavoring to obtain the facts.

In cold war days, Canada was going to be the warning in the event of an attack. Was this a warning to the US?

In light of 57 Canadians being among those passengers killed by the Iranian despot on the Ukrainian airliner. It’s plausible this was a cyber attack warning from Iran to the Canadian govt not to push too far with the shoot down.

Looking at the timeline I call BS on this. It rolled out around 0720hrs EST. The message was an Emergency msg. Yet it took the power PR people 2hrs to send out a retraction msg that was ONLY 3 DAMN LINES .In that message it says NO active incident . So covering themselves they are technically telling the truth as the incident was probably contained and IS NO LONGER ACTIVE.
Just like Hawaii it’s garbage redundancies are in place all over North America for this not to happen. Yet government is ‘oh goodness de we do that’....

Smooth move ex-lax. I would call this irresponsible on the part of those that planned a drill like this, if indeed it was a legitimate drill. Considering all the anxious people in North America that are on edge because the possibility of Iranian sleeper cells going active due to the Soliemani Killing, you would think they would call a drill like this off and post pone it for a few weeks. Somebody needs to get fired for this. Stupidity.

After 9/11 this plant placed signs all around the fencing that deadly force can or will be employed here. There is a public park nearby and if you drive up to the fencing of the overall plant and sit there in a few minutes you will notice that the internal security force or the regular police force will approach you and monitor you from the plant side of the fence.

The reactor that this leak had was from an internal value and the reactor is shut off for maintenance and approx 7000 litres or 1850 gallons of heavy water used to cool parts of the reactor leaked past a value into a designed containment area as designed. This apparently happened on Friday with no external contamination. These reactors are based on the Candu design. But nothing like getting woke up this morning with an emergency alert on the cell phone and no real info to be found.

Given recent events, you have to wonder if maybe something like an Iranian cyber attack might be happening at this facility.
