My wife got her lazy, good for nothing, fat ass out of bed as this was happening. I told her. She shrugged it off. Actually told ME "I'm not awake yet, I have to wake up."
I told her "I wanted us to be in Pennsylvania this week. We should go now" She waved me off like as if to say "It's all such a bother."
I've come to realize I hate this woman. After 31 years, I feel nothing in my heart but disgust when I even look at her. Totally, completely useless. I don't even know why I've stayed. Oh. Wait. I do know . . . . so I can pay for it all.
Now, I'm supposed to what. . . wait until she wakes up?
Maybe wait so she can get dressed or something . . . .
If this __is__ a computer hacking and a fake, I've just gotten a real eye-opener about how the real thing would go down in __my__ house. I'd be vaporized waiting for my good for nothing wife because . . . . It's all such a bother.

I have arrived at my house in Pennsylvania. Alone.
She told me "You have to leave me the car." I replied "I'm taking my car towed behind the pick up truck." She responded "I have to have a car." I asked "For what, you never go anywhere?" She said "You're not taking the car."
I wasn't going to bother pointing out that it's mine. I don't want to bother fighting anymore. I left her the car. Fuck it. I just have to be away from this toxic person.
When I got off the Interstate for the exit to my house, first thing I did was hit the bank and grab some cash; the small maximum I can withdraw daily from an ATM. If things go boom, nothing is going to work; no credit cards, no debit cards. Cash would be king, so I got some.
Next stop, fuel-up the truck. It took 14.5 gallons. If it all goes to hell, I'll at least have fuel. Added DEF fluid too, which is the pollution control fluid that diesel vehicles must use in the USA along with fuel. Now, at least I'm set with that.
I still have to unpack some stuff from the truck, crank the heat up in the house . . . it's down at 60, so got to warm it up.
Will bring in firewood to have inside. Supposed to get significant snow here tonight into tomorrow. Then, off to the supermarket for last minute stuff.
I did a lot of thinking during the three hour drive. Marriage is not a suicide pact. My wife already made clear - quite recently - she has no desire to survive a nuclear war because it would just be so awful. So in my mind, she's already given up. I have not.
She may be willing to sit there and die. I am not.
Maybe this is nothing -- I hope so. But I am not going to discount everything I have seen and heard, and just chalk this up to some computer hacker. Things are wound too tightly now. The possibility of an actual Russian nuclear strike upon us is very real, very near, and very JUSTIFIED.
I will not sit idly-by and wait to be vaporized. She can. I won't.
I told her I do not plan on coming back. I told her I know she may need money help from time to time, and I will do what I can on that. But as far as I'm concerned, this marriage is done.
It's ***NOT*** just what happened today. It's years and years and years of a lot more. There is no salvaging this marriage and worst of all - I don't even want to bother trying. THAT . . . . is how far gone it is.

You have to ask yourself, would taking down the American grid as an act of war be fundamentally different in outcome than nuclear attack? Either would result in huge loss of population. In the coming war, is this necessarily a losing blow?
Not to be crass, but figuring _who_ would be lost, I’m not so sure we’d have to throw in the towel then.
Resilience of habit, depth of patriotic prepped survivors, surviving military infrastructure/depots, geography… all would make Chinese “boots on the ground” pay a price we can doubt they can sustain. One caveat: utter betrayal from “elected leaders”, not altogether unimaginable.

The first time I watched the original with Patrick Swayze ( forget the remake - just beefcake/eye candy) I was intrigued by the story concept. Years later watching again I found it very uncomfortably possible, then plausible…now inevitable.

Each person has a limited amount of emotional resilience. Some have more, some less. When it's used up, coping ceases. It's like a rain barrel that has been drained. It will refill on it's own but slowly and only if the events that caused it to empty stop happening.
THIS IS IMPORTANT .... the draining events must stop.
If you want your spouse to reengage with life you must shelter them from the stress that caused the draining of their emotional resilience.
I shelter my spouse from world news because I need him/her to be functional if there is an actual crisis. We have talked about this. He/she knows I am sheltering and withholding world news. We have a deal. He/she does not read any news and has agreed to allow me to pass on news that is important and actionable. News that is non-actionable only drains the resilience tank without productive benefit.
My spouse's online time consists of favorite hobbies and browsing for baby animal videos. This activity refills the emotional resilience tank faster than it's natural refill rate.
We have had a couple of personal crises and this strategy resulted in my spouse having the emotional resilience reserves to cope, cooperate, and collaboratively decide on actions to be taken.
I hope there is something in this strategy that Hal and others can use.
My spouse is a private person, fanatically so. I avoid specifying my gender so as to avoid specifying my spouse's gender, since in my universe my spouse's gender would naturally be the opposite of my gender.
Although that is a great idea, fat chance that that will happen on a large scale. Mine is known for watching animal videos interspersed with lots of video games while I hammer, spackle, paint, etc. Even kept shaving while I fought off a man with an ice pick. Church told me God would not let me get divorced. Changed religion.
In addition we have settled on a verbal que with each other in regards to sharing uncomfortable but necessary non-emergency information .
When we approach each other we first ask, “Are you in a box?” which translates are you already mentally preoccupied or emotionally stressed.
If the answer is “no” we relay the info. If the answer is “yes” we have a pre-agreement that the one “in a box” has the grace of a few minutes or so to conclude what they are doing or adjust to the moment…then advise the other, “I’m good, what’s up ?”
It is a gracious and respectful way of giving the other person a moment to prepare mentally/ emotionally.
Of course, in an emergency this does not come in to play. But since we have instituted both these actions in our couple’s communication we are both more inclined to share and listen.

Early reports this morning was of a cyber-attack and false alarms about an imminent air strike in Tula province. The message was broadcast on radio stations and television channels. In the Tula region as a result of the hacking of the servers of the radio stations and television channels, information about the announcement of an air strike was broadcast on the air. This information is false and does not correspond to reality, the authority said. Earlier on Thursday similar messages about alleged air strikes were broadcast in Moscow Provinces.
Later however, information appeared which intensified the concern that something, else is happening, the message that appeared on Russian television appeared to psychologically prepare Russian citizens for the "zero hour" in Ukraine. You specifically stated "a nuclear attack has been carried out, please go to the shelter, take the iodine pills" Russia being the first to be attacked with nukes is highly unlikely. Being forced to drop nukes first for example on western Ukraine if something goes wrong in the future, is something that cannot be ruled out. And in this case Russian citizens must be prepared. Coincidentally this message which caused a red alert in several regions of Russia, comes after Putin’s announcement about the nuclear readiness of the ground nuclear strategic systems.

In addition, anti aircraft systems were deployed in Moscow, even in the center of the Russian capital. Do what Hal did. Get cash, bring in wood if you have woodstove/FP (protect wood from fallout), stock up on food, get extra fuel (hope you have generator), plenty of warm clothes, make sure your close loved ones know where you are before communications end, fill up lots of 5 gal containers of water, and make sure you have a serious first aid kit including potassium iodine. Naturally, remember the need for securing your safety from folks that decide they want your stuff at any cost.

I found peace Hal. It wasn't easy but when I finally accepted that despite all of the evil done to me and my children God is in control. I don't understand why I got all of this in my life but once I surrendered my will to God I started getting His peace. I had to grieve my loss of my dreams for my life, for the future, etc. and let those dreams go. Simple dreams like having children around my table and a happy family. Things we 'expect'. I learned that my expectations and all of the work I've done to accomplish this did not mean I would succeed and that I had expectations, period. Getting rid of expectations (like my children should love and cherish me) were the hardest of all. I'm still struggling with that and lots of tears accompany this process.
A spouse who doesn't love you or care about you and your needs/aspirations/care etc is painful and I've had a couple of those too. LOL

I'm no expert on marriage, obviously. But I did learn how to be a godly wife. Sadly I got no respond to that; he left anyway. But I know that I obeyed and honored God.

My experience was to obey what God said about being a wife. You will be rewarded for loving those who hate you; and especially a spouse.
Struggling with this is hard work but you are a very strong man and have endured much. Endure to the end with your marriage Hal. God sees and is pleased with you doing this. And I learned that this all will end. It's hard to remember that when one is suffering so deeply but it will end Hal and what awaits you far surpasses any suffering we endure.

A lot of marriages run on "mutual benefit", masquerading as love. Then when one of the people does not carry their "share" of the load, resentment sets in for both parties - the one saying "why should I do it" and the other saying "why shouldn't you do it?". But it is obvious you have also loved and cared for your wife.
I would humbly suggest reading I Corinthians 13:1-10 in the Bible, to refresh and clear up the true definition of love. This is based on God's love, and it applies when mankind loves. Then use that truth, and try to talk through why this emotional and assistance abandonment is occurring. But read on here....
Here's one of those "hard" passages of scripture ( not really ! ). It might be that I Cor. 7:12-16 applies to your situation. There are a couple aspects in there that have to be applied under the principles of love. But if the spouse leaves, the other spouse is not under obligation. This is tricky, because it would seem your wife is essentially leaving you when she refuses to accompany you to Pennsylvania. If you move somewhere for a new job, for example, and your wife says she isn't going, who is leaving whom ? The wife is essentially leaving by staying put. But the rest of the passage seems to indicate that love must be applied if at all possible. Then if it isn't possible, if one spouse leaves, then other factors apply, as said in the passage.
However, don't let me or anyone else interpret scripture for you that only the Holy Spirit should be doing, once the scripture is presented. Take it to God. But as good counsel is not necessarily interpretation, if you know a kind-hearted fundamentalist pastor, you might ask him for his take on I Cor. 7, and how he would approach it. If he gives you a canned answer, look further.
I will pray God will resolve this for you properly and in righteousness. He will.

This life is all about being refined for our eternity in Heaven. We can choose to live for self or we can surrender ourselves to God and live for Him. It is easy to say that we are all out for God, but are we really?
Do we only call on God when we are in a crisis? It is so easy to be caught up in day today living that we put God on the back burner. God wants to be at the center of our life. When we make decisions based on our love for God, the results will be better.
When we begin our day in prayer and end the day in prayer, we will find ourselves less conflicted. When we choose to allow God to influence us on a daily bases we will find ourselves more contented. Let us seek to put God first and to worship Him in our thoughts and deeds.

I've been married 36 years. She's so much a part of me that life would not be worth living without her. True, the Lord may require me to go on for a time alone, but what a painful journey it would be. Only the love and grace of God would be able to sustain me.
Hal, try to remember why you married. Spend some time together remembering the good times. Together, ask God to heal your hearts and restore the covenant within you. Every broken marriage is a grievous tragedy. The family unit is the foundation of civil society and our nation. Without it, only chaos and evil remains.
