Peru's former President Alan García was hospitalized Wednesday after shooting himself when police entered his house to arrest him for a case of bribes from the Brazilian construction company Odebrecht, a police source said.

The source, who was not authorized to speak to the press, said Garcia was immediately transferred to the local Casimiro Ulloa hospital, located in a district of Lima.

The local television channel America reported that Garcia was undergoing emergency surgery and was in critical condition.

Images from the channel showed the former president's two children entering the hospital.

UPDATE 2:46 PM EDT --

Mr. Garcia has died in the hospital from his self-inflicted gunshot wound.  He was 69.

Shot himself for bribes? Maybe, or maybe not. Another possibility was that García was executed for not going along with the US conquest of Venezuela. It sends a message to other Latin American leaders that they better be on board or else.

How did you manage to snatch that thesis out your ass? Besides which, why are they treating him in hospital if he's been executed? Does your mum have any children who lived?

Garcia died from a gunshot wound, like JFK, who was also assassinated by the US government - CIA, members of Warren Commission and LBJ himself.
