Russia Gives Ultimatum to Mariupol Nazis: Have until 9:00 GMT to lay down their weapons

The Russian Ministry of Defense is publicly reporting they have given an ultimatum to the remaining Ukraine troops holding-out inside Mariupol: They have until 9:00 GMT to lay down their weapons.

The last time the Kremlin gave any kind of ultimatum, was in the late hours of February 23, and it was given to Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky.  That ultimatum told Zelensky that Ukraine had five hours to agree to Russia's terms:

  • Recognize Luhansk and Donetsk as "Independent" within Ukraine Constitutional framework, AND;
  • Agree to not join NATO, AND;
  • Purge the government, police, and military of NAZIS.

Ukraine forwarded the Kremlin ultimatum to the British Embassy and to the American State Department.   The three had conferences by phone or video and the consensus was that Ukraine should "ignore the ultimatum" which they did.

Two hours after that ultimatum expired, the Russian Army crossed Ukraine's border.

So clearly, Russians mean what they say when they give an ultimatum.  Here is what Russia is saying:

We appeal to all servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and foreign mercenaries – with the cynical attitude of the Kiev authorities, such an unenviable fate awaits all of you. Given this, do not test your fate following the example of the Mariupol tragedy, but take the only right decision to stop hostilities and lay down your arms now, wherever your "curators" force you to fight for the ideas of Nazism. At the same time, the Russian Federation guarantees each of you the preservation of life and compliance with all the norms of the Geneva Convention on the Treatment of Prisoners of War, as has already happened with your comrades who previously surrendered in Mariupol.

This urgent statement is subject to immediate publication and communication to the United Nations, OSCE, the International Committee of the Red Cross and other international organizations through all available information resources, including the media.

In addition, the specified urgent statement during the night will be continuously brought to the Ukrainian formations at Azovstal on all radio channels with an interval of every 30 minutes.

Now, the Ukraine troops holding-out in Mariupol have been given an ultimatum.  Ukraine is seven hours ahead of the US east coast, and either two or three hours ahead of GMT.

So if the troops do not surrender, it is not hard to speculate that the Russian Army will take decisive action to put an end to the holdouts.

Only a matter of hours now.
