UPDATED 10:15 AM EST -- Tonga Volcano Triggers Pacific-Wide TSUNAMI - ALERTS ISSUED FOR CALIFORNIA, OREGON, WASHINGTON, ALASKA

UPDATED 10:15 AM EST -- SEE BOTTOM-- A volcanic eruption in the Pacific Ocean near the island of Tonga has triggered an actual Pacific-Wide TSUNAMI, with alerts going out Saturday morning in Hawaii and Alaska to get away from shorelines!

At about 6:00 AM eastern US Time, word started pouring out of Hawaii that Emergency Sirens were sounding on Oahu, with automated speakers announcing "TSUNAMI" and to "get away from beaches."

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a Tsunami Advisory telling Americans in Hawaii and in Alaska, that a volcanic eruption in the sea near the island of Tonga, has triggered a Tsunami wave which was heading toward them at high speed.  The Advisory went on to say "SEA LEVEL CHANGES AND STRONG CURRENTS MAY OCCUR ALONG ALL COASTS THAT COULD BE A HAZARD TO SWIMMERS AND BOATERS AS WELL AS TO PERSONS NEAR THE SHORE AT BEACHES AND IN HARBORS AND MARINAS. THE THREAT MAY CONTINUE FOR SEVERAL HOURS AFTER THE INITIAL WAVE ARRIVAL.

THE ESTIMATED TIME OF ARRIVAL OF THE INITIAL WAVE IS 0105 AM HST SAT 15 JAN 2022"

Details of the Volcanic Event that triggered it were also given:

The National Data Buoy Center showed thirteen Tsunami Warning Buoys ALERTING in the Pacific Ocean from this event:

This was no small Volcanic "Event" -- this was gigantic!

Weather satellites picked up the eruption from space.  Get a load of this:

When the volcano erupted, it was broad daylight in Tongo -- yet the ash from the eruption turned day into night, totally blocking out sunlight to the entire island:

Residents report it was "raining rocks and ash" on parts of the island.

VIDEO

Video is starting to appear on social media showing the Tsunami coming ashore on the Island of Tonga itself.  Thankfully, it looks like a series of small waves breeching beach barriers.
