96 Hour Warning for Florida

96 Hour Warning for Florida

Hurricane Milton has formed in the Gulf of Mexico and, according to the National Hurricane Center, will make landfall in central Florida this coming Thursday as a . . . . Category 3 or 4 Hurricane.

Weather MODELS - which can change substantially - project the Hurricane will strike Tampa Bay, and bring with it an unprecedented Storm Surge of . . . . 18 Feet above normal tide!

Here is today's forecast "cone" for Hurricane Milton:

While I like to think the folks in Florida "know the drill" and make preparations, it is graphically clear that many people do nothing.   One need only look at the devastation in Tennessee and North Carolina, where people have gone now eight days and are already struggling with NO FOOD, NO WATER, NO MEDICINE, NO WAY TO COOK . . .  to see that all the warnings often fall on deaf ears.

Folks in Florida are reminded to have emergency food, water, medicine, a generator to keep your refrigerator working and a light or two on in the house, flashlights for each family member with spare batteries for those lights,.  A portable radio for news and information, with spare batteries for it, too.

It is highly advisable to have communications gear, a CB or HAM radio, with antenna, you can use to communicate with the outside world, if your area ends up without electric, telephones, cell service, and internet.

At the publication of this story on Sunday, 6 October 2024 at 10:12 AM EDT, you have about FOUR DAYS to get prepared.
