Democrat Rep. LaMonica McIver, (photo above in red jacket) was just indicted on federal charges for impeding and interfering with ICE officers at a New Jersey Immigration center last month.
She faces a maximum penalty of 17 years in prison.
A Newark, New Jersey federal grand jury indicted U.S. Representative LaMonica McIver on three counts of forcibly impeding and interfering with federal law enforcement officers.
The charges carry maximum penalties of 8 years for Counts One and Two, and 1 year for Count Three.
U.S. Attorney Habba: "As I have stated in the past, it is my Constitutional obligation as the Chief Federal Law Enforcement Officer for New Jersey to ensure that our federal partners are protected when executing their duties.
While people are free to express their views for or against particular policies, they must not do so in a manner that endangers law enforcement and the communities those officers serve."
The indictment represents a rare move against a sitting member of Congress for allegedly interfering with federal operations.
Habba promises her office "will pursue to a just end" - signaling no special treatment for elected officials who cross the line.
We have entered the “find out” stage.
