Five Police Officers were shot yesterday serving a Warrant in York County, Pennsylvania. Three Officers are dead, one is in Critical (table) condition. The shooter is dead as well; shot by police.
It began when a warrant was being served to an ex-boyfriend of a woman who lived in a farmhouse where Wednesday's deadly shooting occurred.
On Tuesday, Sept. 16, the woman observed the shooter stalking the home in a nearby cornfield.
She reported the incident to the local police, which prompted Northern York Regional Police Department to obtain an arrest warrant and restraining order. Apparently, this stalking situation had been going on for quite awhile, which prompted police to seek court orders this time.
The police attempted to serve the shooter with the order on Tuesday night, but they were not able to find him, according to officials.
On Wednesday, law enforcement was returning to the site to do a follow-up visit when the shooter opened fire from a nearby cornfield, striking and killing three Northern York Regional officers.
The shooter then began moving toward the house where he engaged York County sheriffs.
Two York County sheriffs were struck, but one was able to return fire, killing the shooter.
The shooter was wearing camouflage, according to law enforcement, and it is not yet clear to investigators whether the shooter was waiting in the cornfield for the ex-girlfriend or the officers.
This was a massive incident. Local schools had to go into "Lockdown" for the safety of students and staff. When bullets are flying, they travel upwards of a mile. No telling who might get hit.
Kids started being released around 4:15 PM.
Wounded officers were taken by Med-Evac helicopter to local hospitals.
Radio traffic sounded like this:
"We have one suspect, class four."
"Two officers, class four... correction, three officers, class four."
"One officer, class one."
"We’re going to be coming in with one of the officers shot. We were going to fly, but we’re just coming by ground now. We’re probably less than 15 minutes out... shot in the lower abdomen and left forearm."
