High-Wind Watch to become Warning Wednesday

A High-Wind Watch has been issued for much of the northeastern US today, forecasting winds on Wednesday to be 40 to 60 MPH! It will become a High-Wind warning late tonight into Wednesday.

High wind watches have been issued for 10 New Jersey counties with up to 60 mph gusts possible Wednesday evening into Thursday morning.

The watches issued Tuesday afternoon by the National Weather Service include Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Hunterdon, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, Union and Warren counties (HT REMARK: In my home state of New Jersey, and where my country home is in northeastern Pennsylvania.)

“A strengthening storm tracks to our north later Wednesday into Thursday,” the weather service said. “Strong northwest winds develop later Wednesday, with the strongest winds Wednesday night (gusts 40-60 mph possible). Some areas south of the high wind watch may need a wind advisory.”

Forecasters predict northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts reaching 40 to 60 mph.

“Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are possible,” the weather service said. “Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.”

The strongest winds are expected to develop late Wednesday night.
