Wife . . . Last Night: 103.8° F

Wife . . . Last Night: 103.8° F

My wife took ill yesterday but we didn't realize how serious it was until last night.

All day yesterday, Phyllis was complaining it was "cold" in the house.  It was 72° inside even though it had reached 98° outside.  She also had a small cough, but no wheezing and no difficulty breathing.

Last night, after my radio show, she asks me, "Do we have a thermometer, I think I might have a fever."   I go in the bathroom and get the BRAUN ear thermometer and take her temperature:   103.8° F.     Holy Shit ! ! ! !  That's a high fever!

Phyllis and I have been married almost 34 years and NEVER has she had a fever that high.

So she took two ALEVE, the over-the-counter pain/fever product, and some Robitussin over-the-counter cough medicine, and went to bed.

I asked her if she wanted to go to the hospital, she emphatically said "NO!"   She told me the hospitals up here are "Dog and Cat hospitals."  (Anything that's not from our home state of New Jersey just doesn't measure-up for my wife.  VERY picky.)

So I asked if she wanted me to drive us home right now?  She replied "no."   It would have been about a three hour drive and frankly, I was relieved when she said no, because at that late hour, I was really too tired to do a drive like that.

We wake up this morning, late.  Around 8:15.    I had trouble sleeping last night because now I am getting a cough.

We take her temperature: 98.3°  so that was a big relief.

She comes out by the kitchen and about ten minutes later she says "Take my temperature again."  I said "We just took it ten minutes ago."  She replies "Please take it again."   100.6°   Uh Oh.

So I'm doing the laundry and preparing to (MAYBE) have to drive back to New Jersey so she can see her own Doctor.   Still not sure if we're going to do that, but if that fever spikes again, we won't have a choice.

I asked her if she wants to go to the local Urgent Care; there are TWO of them here:   Guthrie and Geisinger.  She scoffed.   I knew what that meant.

So if the fever continues to rise, it will be . . . pack up the pick up truck and head back to Jersey.   As such, I have to pick up around the house and prepare it to be vacant for awhile.

Never a dull moment.
