Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has declared that the peace treaty with Cambodia - signed roughly two months ago and insured by both Malaysia and the United States - is now void.
He ordered the closure of all additional negotiation channels with the country, stating that this only between Thailand and its “adversary,” Cambodia.
New fighting between the armed forces of both countries, has now erupted. The unstable cease fire between Cambodia and Thailand has erupted into a full scale firefight between both armies. The Royal Thai Air Force bombed Cambodian positions, and at least one point in Cambodia's Northwest Thai troops have crossed into Cambodia.
Deaths are occurring on both sides as local civilian populations are being evacuated by the tens-of-thousands.
Thailand’s military says it's objective is to dismantle Cambodia’s long-term military capabilities in order to prevent future threats and secure the border.
