Israeli Defense Minister Katz issued a stunning threat to the country of Yemen: "Today we brought upon the Houthis a plague of darkness and gloom - there will also be a plague of the first born."
This threat was made, in writing, on social media as shown below:
A "plague of the first born" seems to refer to the Biblical Book of Exodus.
The plague of the firstborn was the tenth and final plague brought upon Egypt in the biblical narrative of the Exodus. It involved the death of all firstborn males, both human and animal, in Egypt, while sparing the Israelite firstborns who were protected by the blood of a lamb on their doorposts, a ritual known as Passover. This event is described in Exodus 11 and 12.
Key aspects of the plague:
Divine Judgment:
The plague was a direct act of God, demonstrating his power over Pharaoh and the Egyptian gods.
Universality:
The plague affected all levels of Egyptian society, from the firstborn of the king to the firstborn of the lowest prisoner.
Distinction:
The Israelites were instructed to sacrifice a lamb, smear its blood on their doorposts, and eat the roasted lamb, which would cause God to "pass over" their homes, sparing their firstborn.
Passover:
The event of the Israelites' deliverance is commemorated by the Jewish holiday of Passover.
Consequence:
The plague led to Pharaoh finally releasing the Israelites from slavery.
Significance:
The plague emphasized God's sovereignty, highlighted the importance of faith and obedience, and served as a powerful demonstration of God's power and justice.
The plague of the firstborn is a central event in the Exodus narrative, marking a turning point in the Israelites' liberation from Egypt and establishing the foundation for the Passover festival.
Hal Turner Editorial Opinion
Unlike Exodus, where Egypt held Israelites in slavery, this time, the roles are reversed: Israel is taking someone else's land by force, and inflicting great harm and death upon those people, to effectuate the land theft.
For Defense Minister Katz to make such a statement is astounding; did God tell him such a thing was coming? Or, is it far more likely, that this obnoxious, arrogant, seemingly psychotic, "Defense Minister" conjure-up this threat while thinking of a bio-weapons attack?
Israel is not a signatory or state-party to the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC), meaning it has not signed or ratified the treaty that prohibits the development, production, and stockpiling of biological weapons.
While Israel has not issued policy statements on biological arms control, the Israel Institute for Biological Research (IIBR) is known to research vaccines and antidotes, but the exact nature of its potential biological weapons capabilities remains a subject of international speculation.
So then, how would a "plague of the first-born" come upon Yemen? Unless Israel is of a mind to use biological weapons?
