China's top trade negotiator removed from WTO post

FLASH TRAFFIC: China's top trade negotiator Li Chenggang has been removed from his post as the country's permanent representative at the World Trade Organization, state news agency Xinhua said.

The announcement is part of a list of ambassadorial appointments and dismissals by President Xi Jinping.

Just days ago, on October 15, US Treasury Secretary Bessent publicly stated "There is a low-level official in the Chinese trade team who is unhinged, and his name is Li Chenggang. In August, Li Chenggang made threats to plunge the global economy into chaos if the United States imposes fees on Chinese ships docking. Now it's China against the whole world."

Here is Secretary Bessent on video:

It is not clear as to WHY China has fired this man or what his firing means for future Trade talks.  Everything is now back in-flux until clarification comes from China.
