The European Commission, seemingly intent on committing continental suicide, will propose on Tuesday to boost weapons production capabilities and enter a "war economy mode" over the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
According to government sources, Thierry Breton, the European industry commissioner, will propose encouraging EU countries to buy more weapons together from European companies, and to help such weapons manufacturing companies to increase production capacity.
"We need to change the paradigm and move into war economy mode. This also means that the European defense industry must take more risks, with our support," said Breton.
With former US President Donald Trump heading for another potential election victory, Breton went on to say "In the current geopolitical context, Europe must take greater responsibility for its own security, regardless of the outcome of our allies’ elections every four years.”
Trump had previously demanded that NATO member countries meet their financial obligation to spend at least two percent (2%) of their Gross Domestic Product (GDP) on defense. Most EU countries still do not meet that obligation.
Trump recently went farther. He told media people that for NATO countries that do not meet their financial obligation he would "tell Putin to do whatever he wants with them."
