My son and I were out on the rear deck up here at our rural Pennsylvania home around 6:45 PM last night, when we heard a visitor on the lower half acre . . .
Yesterday, I had the local landscaper guys come over to do the final leaf-blow and grass cut for the year. The property is all nice, clean and neat again.
My son and I were out on the rear deck when, from the south, we heard rustling in what would be our nearest neighbor's property. Whatever it was made noise as it walked through all the leaves on our neighbor's property.
Suddenly the rustling noise stopped. I said to my son, it either stopped moving, or it is now on our property where there are no leaves.
We waited a minute or so, and my son looked out from the deck and whispered, "Dad, a Deer" and pointed. Well, my eye sight isn't nearly as good as it used to be so I couldn't see it with the rear deck light on, as I looked out into the darkness.
My son moved to the north end of the deck, took out his phone, and started taking pictures. One of the clearest is the one you see above.
This was a Buck. He has very small Antlers protruding from his skull.
We walked back into the house and I shut the living room lights off so we could look out the large Bay Window which overlooks the lower level and the creek that runs along the eastern border of our land. Turning off the lights did away with the light reflection on the inside of the windows and, sure enough, I saw him.
I caught the EARS first because apparently the fur in them is white or at least reflects some light. He was staring right at us in the living room window!
I waved at him. He reared-up and took-off running!
What a difference being out here in the country, versus being in North Bergen, NJ where our primary residence is.
I like it here, better.
