Hurricane Melissa in the Caribbean Sea is on-track to make landfall in the middle of Jamaica, Tuesday. The storm, already a Category 4 with sustained winds of 140 MPH, will begin affecting the island within hours.
As of 7:18 AM eastern US time Sunday morning, the outer rain bands from Melissa are beginning to strike Jamaica. IT will only get worse from here. The hurricane is described as a "slow mover" and the strike on Jamaica is described as "long duration."
As the Eye of the hurricane comes ashore, forecasters are expecting "complete structure failure" for everything in its path. Roofs will be ripped off. Power outages will last for weeks. Flooding will knock buildings off their foundations and wash-away roads. Mudslides will also likely take place.
The storm is moving at only about five miles per hour. This will be a record-breaking storm for Jamaica. There will likely be a heavy death toll.
