For about a week, I have noticed strange troubles with the computers in New Jersey. It began with my monitor occasionally blinking off then on, as if the switch between computers had been pressed. I use a single Monitor/Mouse/Keyboard to handle two separate computers. When the button to toggle between those two is pressed, the computer emits a beep. That was happening. Then things got strange . . .
Then, on or about Monday, I had a complete failure of my MalwareBytes software, which broke so badly it cut off all access to the Internet. I had to remove that software, and the removal process failed multiple times before I was finally able to get it all out.
Then, yesterday morning, my Norton360 firewall/anti-virus software started acting up. Repeated scans for viruses detected nothing.
Last night, the Norton software prevented me from accessing my own Password Vault. And since I didn't remember the (very) lengthy password to log into the storage area of my web site, I could not get in to upload the archive of last night's show.
Like the MalwareBytes, I had to remove and re-install the Norton360 software, but even a fresh install did not enable access to the password vault. It was as if there was some sort of block when Norton went out the THEIR server to validate the encrypted password for the vault.
Finally, around 12:48 AM, I was able to access the password vault and uploaded the audio archive.
Then, my web site started acting weird. Visitors started getting "Failure to initialize session" error messages instead of my web content.
Today, I have NO SOUND on my main computer. Several reboots, no fix.
My son says it appears that I am the target of an "A.P.T." an Advanced Persistent Threat. A very advanced actor is doing things to either gain access to my systems, or possibly HAS gained access and in so doing, is damaging the systems on the machine.
I am aware of this situation and am working to rectify it.
