Mikhail Gorbachev was a Soviet and Russian political and public figure.
General Secretary of the Communist Party Soviet Union (1985-1991) and head of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR).
The first and last President of the USSR (March 15, 1990 - December 25, 1991).
In 1990 he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
He gave the world an opportunity . . . which was squandered.
