Solar Advice Needed

It occurs to me that for all the work I have put-in to the house I got when my mom died, I am still completely at the mercy of the electric grid, a generator that would tear-through gasoline and thus all the things I have would end up being useless without energy in some type of large systemic collapse - be it economic or societal.

I have been told by a number of people to start growing my own food, and equipping myself with at least SOME solar energy system that will be able to power SOME things.

I have been looking at solar for over a year and even went so far as to talk to Schneider Electric about having one of their 38kw systems installed.   Those talks abruptly halted when they told me they want $159,000 to install one.

I don't have that kind of money; nowhere even near it.  And I am NOT going into debt the size of a friggin mortgage to do solar.

So I figured I would ask you guys if any of you have solar stuff, what your experience with it has been, and maybe get some tips about what I might get?

Please use the comment area below to provide feedback.

Thanks,

Hal
