There has been a ship collision off the eastern coast of the United Kingdom involving the U.S.-Flagged "Stena Immaculate" Oil/Chemical Tanker ship. The ship is reportedly burning furiously, and the crew has evacuated into Life Boats.
Reports are saying the Stena Immaculate was "at anchor" and was broadsided by a Portuguese-flagged containership, named "Solong." That ship is also reported to be burning ferociously, and it's crew is also in Life Boats BUT ONE CREW MEMBER IS MISSING.
The Stena Immaculate is American flagged. It’s is 100% crewed by Americans under the Tanker Security Program. It’s operated by Crowley Government Services.
UPDATE 10:12 AM EST --
Imagery is now coming in from the collision:
The Stena Immaculate is one of just ten oil tankers enlisted in a US government program which is designed to supply the armed forces with fuel during times of armed conflict or national emergency.
It means they can be called upon by the US military at short notice but there's no indication that it was being used for these purposes when this accident happened.
This is a developing story, check back for more details.
