Ukraine’s SBU claims it carried out an attack on the Kerch Strait Bridge from Russia to Crimea, placing 1,100 kg of explosives on the bridge’s supports under water.
Video released by Ukraine, shows an explosion:
Russian sources joke that Zelensky stole the explosives budget, as this is nowhere near 1100 kg of TNT

Ukraine CLAIMS the explosion occurred at 4:44 am, seriously damaging underwater structures.
Ukraine also claims “The underwater structures at the bottom level are seriously damaged - the bridge is actually in a state of emergency” and released an image from the upper deck, showing what appears to be damage:
Russia reports "the bridge functions as before and no emergency was declared. A little clean up was done."
The online bridge status reporting system reports:
UPDATE 8:29 AM EDT --
Reports now coming in saying there has been a SECOND significant explosion at the Kerch Strait Bridge.
UPDATE 8:44 AM EDT --
Russians report the explosions occurred near one of the bridge supports, but thanks to reinforced defenses, the structure itself remained unharmed.
The Russians say the blast impacted only protective barriers, and some debris was scattered onto the roadway.
Bridge Operations sources say Traffic was briefly halted but has since resumed normal operations.
While Ukrainian sources spread claims about "mining" the bridge, available evidence points to the use of submersible drones such as the Marichka or Toloka, developed since 2023. It’s also likely that unpublicized variants may have been involved.
UPDATE 8:52 AM EDT --
Ukraine Intel Source says "Ukrainian sea drones are now crashing into the defensive structures around the Kerch Bridge to clear the path for subsequent sea drones to reach the bridge itself."
UPDATE 9:08 AM EDT --
Video, below, purportedly shows the type of underwater drone manufactured for this type of operation. It looks like a large torpedo.
It is NOT known if this is video of the actual device used against the Kerch Strait Bridge this morning.
UPDATE 11:10 AM EDT --
Kerch Bridge is now closed to both vehicles and marine traffic.
UPDATE 11:55 AM EDT --
Russia has issued a statement: "The Kerch bridge has been reopened to the public and is now safe to use. This was an attack on a major civilian infrastructure, the longest bridge in Europe. I don't see any western leader condemning it, please don't cry when we retaliate."
