Ukraine’s top military chief warned Wednesday that a “limited” nuclear war between Russia and the West cannot be discounted, a scenario with grave global implications.
“There is a direct threat of the use, under certain circumstances, of tactical nuclear weapons by the Russian Armed forces,” commander in chief Valeriy Zaluzhnyi wrote in an article published by Ukrinform, a state-run media outlet. “It is also impossible to completely rule out the possibility of the direct involvement of the world’s leading countries in a ‘limited’ nuclear conflict, in which the prospect of World War III is already directly visible.”
Zaluzhnyi also acknowledged for the first time that Kyiv was behind strikes deep inside the Russian-occupied Crimea Peninsula in August.
The air bases and ammunition depot that were hit were in areas previously thought to be out of range for Ukraine — but were part of its strategy to shift “the Russian Army’s center of gravity,” Zaluzhnyi wrote.
With the fighting all but certain to continue into 2023, Ukraine has to make the war “even sharper and more tangible for the Russians and for other occupied regions, despite the massive distance to the targets,” Zaluzhnyi wrote.
He called the Crimean strikes a “convincing example” of Kyiv’s calls for allies to send longer-range weapons for its outgunned soldiers. Moscow, he said, can hit 20 times farther.

I have been warning about this for months. Readers of this website and listeners to my radio show met my warnings with mixed reactions, from taking advice to prepare, to belittling my warnings as "Chicken Little, the sky is falling."
Now, the Chief of the Ukrainian military is saying it publicly.
Those who belittled my warnings - and those who ignored my warnings - should now see how prescient I have been, and would do well to make certain they and their families have emergency supplies of food, water, medicines, communications gear (CB radio and/or HAM radio) Flashlights, batteries, First-Aid kits, guns, ammunition, a generator to keep food in the fridge from spoiling, and a small amount of fuel for that generator.
Since Winter is fast approaching, folks should have a method of heating which does not rely on traditional gas or electric. Perhaps a portable kerosene heater with spare fuel. Warm winter clothing and extra blankets. Those with a fire place or wood-burning stove should have extra Cords of wood. Get it now. Don't wait.
If the war in Ukraine crosses even the battlefield (tactical) nuclear weapons threshold, it will not stop there. It will escalate.
Folks who live near major targets like US nuclear missile bases/silos, or in major cities, need to have an evacuation plan and a place to go before the missiles are launched.
At the very first reports of an actual Tactical nuclear detonation, all bets are off and it is evac time. It will only be an hour or two before a nuclear response takes place, and once that response takes place, there really is no way to tell if there will be a response to that response. Or how big it will be.
While I am terrified that such a scenario is now being openly discussed, this is no time for panic or fear. This is the time for PLANNING.
