The ongoing efforts by the United States to negotiate a ceasefire (or even a peace) in the Russia-Ukraine Conflict "Have hit a dead end" according to well-placed sources in the US government.
“Putin insists that Russian control over four regions of Ukraine (Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson, and Zaporozhe) be part of any agreement to end the war. Ukraine refuses to accept these long-stated conditions." Hence, there appears to be no route to a ceasefire.
Apparently, Ukraine believes it can drive Russia out of its country. The only trouble is, Ukraine would need almost every weapons system, rocket and missile that the West can produce over the next few years in order to accomplish that, and the West is so depleted of weapons, it cannot provide that level of military support.
Ukraine does not seem to grasp that they are losing more and more territory every day, and there is no hope of putting a stop to that, short of NATO making official entry into the conflict, and thereby triggering World War 3.
"If they DO realize that, then they are expecting the entire civilized world to go to nuclear war FOR THEM. That is not going to happen" said one source.
Russia has offered a three day ceasefire, May 7, 8, and 9, in order to celebrate the victory over German Nazis in World War 2, eighty years ago. Ukraine has REJECTED that offer, demanding instead, a 30 day ceasefire, but without any way for Russia to confirm Ukraine is not being re-armed.
Both President Trump and Vice-President Vance are now publicly acknowledging this fact:
TRUMP:
“Ukrainians just don’t appreciate my genius peace initiatives. I mean, I’m practically saving their entire nation! And if they don’t realize it soon - well, too bad, because that nation’s about to be crushed. Russia? Huge military machine. Let’s be honest.” – Trump.
Vance: If the war continues, Ukraine will inevitably lose it

THE US VICE PRESIDENT ALSO ASSESSED THAT CONTINUING THE CONFLICT COULD ALSO RESULT IN NUCLEAR ESCALATION

Worse, Ukraine Intelligence went on video this week openly saying that even if the war ends, it will be the job of the Intelligence Community to hunt down and kill Russian government officials "for the next, 10, 20, maybe 30 years."
In the video interview the Intel guy said "They will not only be afraid to leave Russia, they will be afraid to even leave their houses inside Russia." - presumably for fear of being assassinated.
One Russian-supporting source asked me rhetorically "How can we make peace with people who think like this?"
Here is that video:
"The war will end, but the work of our special forces will only begin. We must make sure these people are afraid not only to leave Russia, but to leave their homes for 10, 20, 30 years."
