The Russian Foreign Ministry confirms Ukraine's foiled attempt to attack Russian President Vladimir Putin and Defense Minister Belousov.
Ukrainian intelligence services were preparing a terrorist attack on Russian Navy Day in St. Petersburg, where the president and defense minister were present.
This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov on the Rossiya 1 TV channel, according to the Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper.
According to Ryabkov, the attack was supposed to take place on July 28. However, a few days before that, Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov personally called US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to convince Ukraine to abandon its plans.
The New York Times previously reported on the "mysterious call" between Austin and Belousov.
