Self-declared Prince Heinrich XIII and other high-profile suspects, including ex-military officers, went on trial Tuesday for allegedly plotting to overthrow the German government.
The case, which shocked Germany in late 2022, involves over two dozen suspects and 260 witnesses and is expected to continue until 2025.
The group, part of the Reichsbürger movement, allegedly planned to install Heinrich XIII as the new leader and restore the pre-World War I German Empire.
Among the accused are Heinrich XIII's girlfriend and Birgit Malsack-Winkemann, a judge and former lawmaker with the far-right Alternative for Germany party.
Prosecutors claim they intended to storm the Reichstag, arrest lawmakers, and display a chained-up Chancellor Olaf Scholz on television to gain public support.
