Yes, I'm OK

Yes, I'm OK

Last night on my radio show, I mentioned that there is a LOT of remodeling work taking place here at the Pennsylvania house, and it is of a nature that I had to make decisions for the carpenters to carry out.  So my attention to this web site has been limited for a day or so.  Today, that continues . . .

The kitchen is being remodeled. The photo above shows what the room looks like this morning, Wednesday, July 19, 2023.

The new 3/4" plywood sub-floor is in, and level.  The foam vapor barrier/Insulation is partially in and must cure for 48 hours, then a second, final coat will be installed, for an R-value of R-20, which is up from the previous R-11.  Most importantly, though, flaws in the outer sheathing, and cracks/holes in the floor which were hidden beneath the old cabinets, are now sealed and no air can get in.  That was a MASSIVE problem with the old kitchen, which made the entire kitchen uncomfortably cool/cold in winter.

But this house is an older, wood-framed house, built onto a hill and over the years, things have . . . shifted.  Walls are no longer plumb.  Floors are no longer precisely level.   But to do the remodel, all those things must be addressed, and when we fix one problem, we uncover two others!

And everything is connected to everything else, so work done in one place, may adversely affect another.  It's very annoying to have to pay so much attention to all this, but I **must** -- I can't just ignore it.

So yesterday, and so far today, I've been doing that instead of doing this.  I have gotten calls this morning asking if I am OK because this site has not been updated. I am OK and this site will be updated today.
