The National Weather Service is now urgently telling New Yorkers that an inbound storm system from the Atlantic Ocean is likely to "stall" over New York City Friday-into-Saturday, and thereby dump 9.9 to 14 inches of rain on the area by Saturday afternoon. It is worth noting that Hurricane Sandy, which devastated NYC with flooding, only dumped 8 inches.
The strange and very fast development of this latest forecast is troubling. For all their so-called "super-computers" people who live in and near America's largest city have gotten very little advance warning. This is important because, as most are aware, many apartment buildings throughout the five boroughs of New York City have basement apartments, all of which will FLOOD when the streets fill-up. There is a very real risk of people DROWNING in their own apartments during a situation like this.
Folks who recall Hurricane Sandy will remember these photos showing what happened to New York City when that storm dumped eight inches of rain:
Folks in and around New York City, especially in Bergen, Hudson, Essex and Passaic Counties of north eastern New Jersey, should pay VERY close attention to this storm and evacuate if needed.
