Germany is planning to return compulsory conscription to the army.
The head of the German Defense Ministry, Boris Pistorius, has ordered the preparation of proposals to restore compulsory military service.
According to government documents, Pistorius intends to seek the return of conscription before the elections to the Bundestag, which will be held in the fall of 2025.
The relevant proposals, according to Pistorius' order, should be prepared by April 1.
Germany suspended compulsory military conscription in 2011 and switched to professional troops.
